The relationship between temple education and Thai society is organic and adaptive, creatively responding to changing political environments.1 Education has been an important component of the vital, ongoing relationship between lay Buddhists and the monastic institution within Thailand.

Currently in Thailand, families can choose between public schools, temple schools, and other private schools. However, temple schools remain a place for learning modern, secular subjects, the Buddhist Dhamma (teachings of the Buddha), and Pali, the sacred language of Theravada Buddhism.
